The 3 Most Important Things To Do Before A Workout by Dr Asa Andrew

There is a much debate about what to do in preparation for a great workout. Eat or don’t eat. Fasting? Carbs or protein? Caffeine? There are many questions that are asked on what you should do to maximize your performance and get the best muscle building and fat burning results from your hard effort and sweat.

Your body needs certain nutrients to endure a great workout. Remember, it is about the calories that you burn during the workout, and the after-burn of what the level of intensity does to fuel your metabolism to get you in shape. For empowering your health, here are some keys to maximizing your exercise efforts. Here are my top 3.

Yes you need to eat. The body needs certain fuel to make the workout the best in function. Yes you will still burn calories, however, you need the proper food to give the body what it needs to support healthy muscle growth and give you the energy to push hard during the workout. I say strive for about a 50/50 ratio of protein and carbohydrates. The most digestible form is the best. I usually do about 25 grams of organic protein in water with 1 piece of fruit. This gives me the energy that I need to push through an intense workout.

2.Drink More Water
Did you know that our performance decreases with just 1% of hydration lost from our system? Being just a little dehydrated can cause us not to perform at our peak levels. This can be challenging to our overall health as well. Being hydrated also helps us to go longer until exhaustion.

Supplements are great additions to a workout routine. Certain nutrition will provide key nutrients for better growth, recovery, and hormonal response. Great eating is the most important, however, key nutrition will always be the catalyst to generating the extra that gives you the edge. My favorites are a good organic protein powder, glutamine, vitamin C, and green tea extract.

If you combine all three of these keys to a better workout, you will be a step ahead of the game. Getting results with your body is about intensity and consistency. Get started, get the edge, and go make it happen. Your health is your greatest wealth.
